Shrew thought to have been extinct for over two centuries photographed in the Nilgiris

The species was described in 1813 near Puducherry by French naturalist PierreĀ Sonnerat. So far, no specimen has ever been collected. On October 1, 2022, wildlife biologists and researchers working in the Nilgiris photographed a dead shrew near Ooty Lake in Udhagamandalam
