Overhaul housing index compilation method: Statistics ministry

India’s statistics ministry is set to overhaul the housing index compilation for the Consumer Price Index (CPI). Rent data will now be collected monthly, and the index will cover both rural and urban areas. The move aims to create a more accurate reflection of housing costs by excluding government accommodations and focusing on actual rental market transactions.
