Meta launches new AI model as Zuckerberg lays out vision for open-weight AI
The tech giant released a new open-weight AI model on Monday, along with an essay from Mark Zuckerberg saying lower barriers are needed for open-weight tech in order for U.S. models to compete with Chinese ones. The letter is the most recent show of support for open-weight models after a letter from top tech firms late last month, and comes after a Chinese open-weight model was used to contain an AI test gone wrong.
